Editorial Review:

The horror of losing a child is somehow made worse when the case goes unsolved for nearly a decade, reports Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel columnist Jacquelyn Mitchard in this searing first novel. In it, 3-year-old Ben Cappadora is kidnapped from a hotel lobby where his mother is checking into her 15th high school reunion. His disappearance tears the family apart and invokes separate experiences of anguish, denial, and self-blame. Marital problems and delinquency in Ben’s older brother (in charge of him the day of his kidnapping) ensue. Mitchard depicts the family’s friction and torment–along with many gritty realities of family life–with the candor of a journalist and compassion of someone who has seemingly been there. International publishing and movie rights sold fast on this one: It’s a blockbuster. Continue reading »

Awhile back, I came across the streaming video on my Netflix, “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.” It was in Swedish with English subtitles. I enjoyed the movie so much that I purchased the series of Kindle books by Stieg Larsson. I then found out that Stieg Larson died in 2004, shortly after delivering all three manuscripts to the publisher.

I really, really do love my Kindle.

After using my Kindle, I would never go back to reading real books. Well, except for cookbooks, textbooks, books with charts, photographs, or illustrations, that is. The Kindle Fire, on the other hand, would be great for these.

It’s lightweight and fits in my purse. No more dog-eared pages. I love how it goes right to where I left off, even if I exit from the book to read another, it always goes back to the last page read in whatever book you choose from the list. It’s so easy to highlight sections and bookmark pages. I also love how you can enlarge the font. My aging eyes are tired of reading the fine print in paperbacks. With Wireless off, the battery lasts for weeks. I usually order my Kindle editions on my laptop using 1-Click ordering, but you can easily shop the Kindle Store with your Kindle and buy books on the go. They end up on my Kindle in seconds.

About once a week, I find myself perusing the Kindle Store. I’m always looking for free or cheap eBooks. I’ve paid full price for a few eBooks, but I assure you, there are plenty of cheap or free e-Books to choose from.

I had previously listed many of the Kindle books I’ve downloaded and read recently. I’ve moved them to the Books That I’ve Read Category Continue reading »
