Awhile back, I came across the streaming video on my Netflix, “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.” It was in Swedish with English subtitles. I enjoyed the movie so much that I purchased the series of Kindle books by Stieg Larsson. I then found out that Stieg Larson died in 2004, shortly after delivering all three manuscripts to the publisher.
The movies were all great, but I strongly suggest that you read the books first. As is in most cases, the movies just can’t encompass the whole story; especially the last one, The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest. The movie was good, but they left out so many details it could easily have been split into two movies.
U.S. Version of “Girl With The Dragon Tattoo”
I haven’t seen the U.S. version of the movie, yet. I’m actually waiting for it to come out on NetFlix, which will be released on 3/20/12. I will say that, at first, I didn’t think the remake would even compare to the original. But from what I’ve seen and heard, I am hoping that I will be pleasantly surprised. I’ll comment more after I’ve watched the movie.
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011) DVD will be released on March 20, 2012 and can be pre-ordered on Amazon.
Not Kindle, but this would be a great addition to anyone’s collection, and would make a very nice gift. Check out Stieg Larsson’s Millennium Trilogy Deluxe Boxed Set. Available at Amazon US | CA | UK
One of the Kindle e-Books that I paid full price for is “Think Like a Pancreas: A Practical Guide to Managing Diabetes with Insulin.”
I have diabetes, and this book was recommended to me. It was well worth it. It helped me better understand the science of diabetes, the major factors that affect blood sugars, reasons why I need to take insulin, the different types of insulin and how to use them, how to better control my blood sugar levels using helpful information about food and how certain foods affect blood sugar. ~Susan
Some of the following were limited time offers, so you’ll have to check for special deals. These eBooks ranged in price between $0.99 and $3.99
Very short stories:
- The Rabbit Died (Holidays From Hell short story series) by Sue Ann Jaffarian
- Pull My Paw (Holidays From Hell Short Story Series) by Sue Ann Jaffarian
I love these humorous short stories about the Bowen family holidays. Maybe not worth more than $0.99, but still a very good read
Great mysteries:
- The Craigslist Murders (Melville International Crime) by Brenda Cullerton
I was drawn to this novel solely because of the title. Brenda Cullerton brings modern technology to a new level. This would make a great movie, if they haven’t done it already. She lures us into the elite’s lifestyle and gives her main character a perfect outlet to approach her victims.
by Sue Ann Jaffarian
Sue Ann Jaffarian is a fairly new mystery writer and, so far, I love her style of writing. I’m hooked on Granny Apples and Odelia Grey mysteries.
by Rick Murcer
Rick Murcer writes a great thriller, introducing Detective Manny Williams of the Lansing Police Department, along with friends and family. This is an intense thriller with lots of twists and turns, especially at the end. But the case isn’t completely solved and leaves you wanting to hurry up and grab the next Manny Williams thriller, “Deceitful Moon.”
by Rick Murcer
Rick Murcer’s next Manny Williams thriller does not disappoint. The fact that the story picks up where the first one (Caribbean Moon) left off is sort of a double-edged sword. After Caribbean Moon, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on the next one. It’s a good thing it was already available, so I didn’t have to wait more than the few seconds it took me to download Deceitful Moon to my Kindle.
Honestly, there haven’t been that many authors or novels that I’ve look so much forward to. Well, except for the Twilight series. You may laugh, or think I’m pitiful, but I just loved the saga and couldn’t wait to read the next one. Maybe it brought out the teenager in me and I yearned for those days of innocence, before we came to believe that there truly were some monsters out there. Anyway, again I digress. But now, after finishing Deceitful Moon, Rick Murcer did it again.
He ended the book without completely solving all of the murders that he cleverly created, and left me with a cliffhanger “to be continued” feeling. Like a favorite TV show at the end of a season where you have to wait months to see how everything turned out. This is exciting, but also very frustrating for me. At least he included the first four chapters of Emerald Moon. I will be on pins and needles until it is released in November.
