Previously, I had written a short review of Stieg Larsson’s trilogy of books involving the character, Lisbeth Salander. Click here for Kindle books I have read so far. I had first seen The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo on streaming video through Netflix. It was in Swedish with English captions, but I was hooked from the beginning. Read the first chapter here.
I had just gotten my Kindle for Christmas and my first “paid for” Kindle book was the next in the series, The Girl Who Played with Fire, then The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest.
Stieg Larsson’s Millennium Trilogy Deluxe Boxed Set: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played with Fire, The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest, Plus On Stieg Larsson.

Now, just in time for the holidays: a deluxe, slip-cased set of the three hardcover novels—each unjacketed, bound in full cloth and uniquely stamped, with maps and individual full-color endpapers—as well as On Stieg Larsson, a previously unpublished collection of essays about and correspondence with the author.
The perfect collectible for the Stieg Larsson fan and the ideal gift for those who have yet to meet his heroine, Lisbeth Salander, “one of the most fascinating characters in modern genre fiction” (San Francisco Chronicle).
This is truly a great set to add to your collection or to give as a gift. However, if you are interested in the Kindle version, check out my post Here.

It seems that Hollywood is going to remake Stieg Larsson’s triology. According to the article, “You expect Americans to read subtitles and follow high intrigues among the fjords? You flatter your brethren.” …Read more
I am so worried that they are going to screw this up. I really enjoyed the Swedish version. I was so intrigued from the very beginning, the English subtitles didn’t bother me at all. I really don’t think they gave them a chance in the U.S. They say that they only grossed $10 million in the states, but they didn’t have nearly as many showings as U.S. films. In fact, I never saw it playing at all. I just happened to come across The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo on Netflix streaming video. I am so glad I did.
They certainly can’t change the locations, and the accents have to be authentic or it will be ruined. I read that Daniel Craig is rumored to play Mikael Blomkvist and Rooney Mara as Lisbeth Salander. I’ll have to go see the remakes, but I can’t imagine enjoying them as much as the Swedish version. Maybe I’ll be pleasantly surprised.
Here is the long awaited Extended Version on DVD of Dragon Tattoo Trilogy: Extended Edition (2011) This set includes a 4th Disc of bonus features. The release date for the Extended Version of Stieg Larsson’s Trilogy is 12/6/2011. It consists of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo / The Girl Who Played With Fire / The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest.
There is also the trilogy in a shorter version that was released in 2010. Click Here. This set includes a 4th Disc of bonus features. The films were originally made for Swedish Television, and were shortened when released to theaters. The original films ran for about 3 hours, the shortened version closer to 2-1/2. At this stage, I suggest waiting for the release of the Extended Version on 12/6/2011.
These DVDs are all based on the original in Swedish with English subtitles.
