Sewing, Canning, Cleaning, Gardening
Homemaking is popular again! Remember the days when our grandmothers (and grandfathers) would make everything from scratch, or perform tasks that most people hire someone to do today? Well, those days are here again! Doing things at home and by your own hand is a choice, not a chore. A new generation is embracing the do it yourself (DIY) mentality, even beyond home improvement projects.

Make your own cleaning supplies; alter, mend and sew your own garments; grow your own vegetables, can your own jams, knit or crochet wonderful gifts for family and friends. The list goes on. And you know what? Many of these are great family activities and can be so much fun to do together!

Think of how proud you feel after accomplishing a do-it-yourself project. Once you start, you gain the confidence to learn how to do more things you never thought about doing yourself. Things that many frugal moms have been doing for years. One such friend owns and operates Frugal-Freebies.com, where they post all kinds of do-it-yourself products and ways to save money. If anyone needs to try to save money, it’s me. I’m sure that many families are in the same situation, with the economy as bad as it is. We live on a limited budget and I always seem to go overboard when I shop for groceries. That’s right, groceries – food. The prices are increasing like crazy and our food bill has almost doubled in the last five years, whereas salaries have not.

I was about to prepare my shopping list and am determined to save some money this time. I’m not good at using/finding coupons at all. Sure, I clip coupons from our local (free) magazines and store ads, but I very rarely find any good ones. I also go online and look for them on coupons.com, and other coupon sites. But, again, I hardly ever find coupons for products that I normally buy. I actually spend more than usual by buying additional items just so I can use the coupons! Then, I’m lucky if I remember to use them when I go through the grocery line.

Today, I found something pretty exciting, at least I was excited. Continue reading »

I just read an HP newsletter announcing the discontinuation of the HP TouchPad. See Press Release.

You may find some pretty good deals on the TouchPad, if you can grab them before they’re gone. For example, HP lowered the price to $149.99 for the 32G and $99.99 for the 16G.

However, consumers who purchased the special deals on Amazon, by Onsale, have complained that they are now out of stock and had to cancel their orders.

I just spoke to a customer sales rep and he informed me that the product has been discontinued and that resellers have been instructed to return the product to HP, and HP will in turn have a closeout sale. HP will be making an announcement and will send me an email notification when the TouchPad becomes available. I’m not going to hold my breath.

You might want to check periodically for availability at the following link, then click on Tablets.

Or call HP directly at 1 (888) 999-4747 and ask for their email notification.

They have some pretty good deals on laptops, too, which is a good time to buy for your high school student.
